Schools / Education
Home to more than three million people, Orange County offers a wide variety of education choices for residents and people looking for a great place to live while going to school. For families, the county department oversees 28 school districts, featuring dozens of award winning and competitive schools. Districts of note include the Saddleback Valley Unified School District, which oversees Laguna Hills High School, and the very popular Trabuco Hills High School, where more than 3,000 students are enrolled, as well as Irvine Unified School District, where schools are regularly listed in Newsweek's '1,000 Best Public High Schools' feature.
Some of California's best and most popular post secondary education institutions are also based in Orange County. Perhaps most prominently, the University of California-Irvine is located in the successful planned community of Irvine. One of ten U of C campuses spread throughout the state, this location was founded in 1959 on 1,500 acres of land acquired from the Irvine Company (with 1,000 of the acres donated by the company). Together, the University of California and the Irvine Company planned the city of Irvine around the campus, resulting in a community where higher learning is never compromised.
Other fine post-secondary institutions in the Laguna Beach real estate area include the University of Southern California – Orange County Center, California State University - Fullerton, Chapman University, and the Art Institute of California – Orange County Campus.
